Edmonton Oilers fans gather near the arena before Game 1 of an NHL first-round hockey playoff series between the Oilers and the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, Edmonton, Alberta. (Jason Franson/The Canadian Press via AP) Despite the Edmonton Oilers losing their first playoff game since Game 7 of the 2006 Stanley Cup Final, one couple went home very, very, very happy.
David and Tanya Idzan probably weren’t fans of Melker Karlsson’s overtime goal that gave the San Jose Sharks a Game 1 victory, but the $336,995 CA ($254,640 USD) going into their bank account would certainly help get them over the loss.

The Izdan’s won the Rogers Place 50/50 raffle, which, according to Oilers Entertainment Group, is the largest in team history. The previous high was $154,167, set during a 2015 preseason game.

Proceeds of the raffle benefit the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northern Alberta.
“We buy $40 worth of raffles every game,” David Izdan told ESPN’s Darren Rovell. “We bought $80 last night.”
The Izdans have had season tickets for seven years and planned to purchase more raffles before the drawing but the lines were too long. The winning 50/50 number was announced during the game, so the couple had the check in-hand as they sat and watched overtime.

While they don’t know just what they’ll do with all the money yet, they probably don’t have to worry about*paying for season tickets*for the next few years.
