Kuznetsov scored a goal and added an assist in the Capitals’ Presidents’ Trophy clinching 2-0 win over the New York Rangers. The Caps have now won two straight Presidents’ Trophies, designating the NHL’s best regular season record that season, and three total in franchise history. Washington’s other Presidents’ Trophy came in 2009-10. The Capitals*will have home ice advantage throughout the upcoming Stanley Cup playoffs.

No. 2 Star:*Braden Holtby Washington Capitals
Holtby stopped all 24 shots on goal against the Rangers to pick up the shutout. It was his ninth shutout of the season, which tied a franchise record. Holtby previously picked up nine shutouts in 2014-15 as did Jim Carey in 1995-96. With the victory, Holtby improved to 42-12-6.

No. 3 Star:*Rasmus Ristolainen, Buffalo Sabres
Ristolainen scored his sixth goal of the season and played 23:03 in a 2-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens. The 22-year-old defenseman now has 45 points in 77 games on the season. The win by the Sabres broke a three-game losing streak.

Honorable Mention: Sabres forward Tyler Ennis scored a goal. … Buffalo forwards Evander Kane and Jack Eichel each notched one assist. Eichel now has 57 points, which is a new career-high. He achieved this in 22 fewer games than his rookie year in 2015-16. … Buffalo goaltender Robin Lehner stopped 31 of 32 shots on goal. … Montreal forward Tomas Plekanec scored his 10th goal of the season. … Canadiens forwards Alexander Radulov and Paul Byron each picked up one assist. … Capitals forward Justin Williams scored his 23rd*goal of the season. … Washington forward Marcus Johansson notched two assists. … Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin notched an assist on Williams’ goal.
