Why doesn't google play let me download apps that require Android 2.3+?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace with Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread. When I bought my phone, it was already updated to 2.3.5, instead of 2.2 Froyo, but Google Play does not let me download apps that require 2.3 or higher, it says that it is incompatible with my device. How can I change this, because I'm missing out on all the best apps
