Although they have been locally popular for some time, summer pro-am basketball leagues have received a fair deal of attention in recent years, buoyed by the necessities of the 2011 lockout and continued by basketball fans who would consider bugging people's houses if it meant getting a glimpse at their favorite players. Among these leagues, Los Angeles's Drew League is among the best attended and most competitive, full of familiar NBA faces and a great atmosphere. Sometimes, though, it can get a little combative.
During the league's first semifinal between the Kings of LA and Hank's A-1 All-Stars, former Los Angeles Clippers point guard Mike Taylor drove on new Detroit Pistons point guard Brandon Jennings for a lay-in. After the play, Taylor and Jennings got in each other's faces, after which Taylor slapped Jennings in the face. Jennings didn't pursue the matter, thankfully, but Taylor was ejected for his actions.
This is not the first time that an NBA player has been involved in a pro-am league tiff. During August of the aforementioned 2011 lockout, Michael Beasley and Matt Barnes were both involved in altercations. The difference then was that both players were the perpetrators, with Barnes even earning a suspension. By comparison, Jennings overstepped no bounds.
