I read this book a couple of years ago and it has stuck with me ever since.
It is a teenage fiction book. It's basic synopsis is that two siblings have parents who are archeologists or something similar and they go missing on an expedition. Years later, their children accidentally open a portal to another dimension via amulets they wear which were given to them by their parents in the mail days after they went missing. The dimension they fall into combines all of the past, present and future things. There are dinosaurs, Greek/Roman warriors, Aztec temples, wizards etc. There is a special temple which inside is a gem that emits a power to protect all the people that have ended up there. The gem also allows them to speak a language they call "all-world" so they can all understand each other. In the book, the place is thwarted by an evil person but the siblings save the parallel world and discover their parents had once been there but had managed to escape via the gem in the temple. They then return to the normal world to find their parents.
