Confession Box: not inline with Christ's teachings?

I am confused about confession box practice. Did not Christ say hate sin and not the sinner and you don't need to confess to omniscient god, he already knows everything, then why telling another human being who may or may not be good ( we all know all kind of people are present in this world) is not going to help, the realization of the sin and repentance that the "sin never happen again" is the right thing. Church came after Christ so some how I feel it's not what Christ wanted. Isn't that a wrong tool to control people. Think about in feudal ages a simple confession like "I did not pay taxes properly" could end up horribly for you and your family while someone tries to blackmail you?

@Orthodox catechumen: And we believe that the person behind the box will not reveal any thing or misuse it? because of a oath? We have seen so many incidents across globe where preachers (all religions) have misused there position, btw how it helps to confess in front of a man when its best when you confess to your soul you did a sin and it will never happen? how is better?

Look up James 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.

it does not say who to confess to it just says confess to each other as it helps heal us of our sins.
If a priest were to misuse his position- people expect him to get fired , defrocked and possibly excommunicated.

The Booth is only a western Tradition BTW- Eastern Christians do it in front of a lecturn with a Bible on it.
