How do I get a song as my ringtone on an iPhone 4s?

I have an IPhone 4S and want a song as my ringtone I tired creating and AAC version but it still doesn't work any ideas how I can get a song as my ringtone

You have to load it to the ringtone(s) section of iTunes
and then sync it (that section) to the phone.

It needs to both be in the right format AND in the ringtones folder/section.
Then you can select it as a ringtone.

You cannot just select 'any' music even though it is in the right format for a ringtone.
