Nothing will work not even ctrl alt del?

When I start up my laptop, windows 7 I think 64 bit, and it starts normally but after a second I cant click anything on my taskbar and I can click the start button but nothing in it. I cant right click on the taskbar to start task manager or press ctrl shift esc. When I press ctrl alt del it will take a couple seconds to load then the screen will go black and say that the logon process was unable to disppay security and logon options when ctrl alt delete was pressed. When I click any of the icons on my desktop it has the spinning circle as if its trying but then will give up. The problem started a couple days ago and I did a system restore to 2 days before it happened and it didnt change anything. I got avast and didnt find any viruses and I got a legitimate registry fixer/cleaner and ran both in safe mode and found about 360 registry errors and started up normally again and the same problem persists. If you need any other information to help me I will provide it.

I'm no guru, but right now I'm thinking of two problems. One: did windows install any updates right before this problem started happening? If so, that could be the issue. It's happened to me. You will have to start up in safe mode and remove the update. Two: it could be issues with some of your drivers. To find out, go to your device manager and check and see if there are any system devices/drivers that are missing/corrupt and download them online.

Yes it could be due to a failed Windows Update. If doing a System Restore to a much earlier date can't fix it then there's probably something wrong with the default user account. The permissions on the files may have been altered also due to corrupted registry.

I had a similar case last month on a desktop. I had to take out the hard drive, attach it to a laptop using an enclosure and verify the ownerships and permissions. It was very difficult to diagnose but I was still able to fix it.

However, you might not be technically equipped to do those so the best thing to do is copy all your data to an external device and do a clean install of the OS and applications. It would be easier for you if done that way instead of banging your head trying to figure out what the problem is.
