Hello,

I am looking to buy a second hand car (my first car ever!), and came across a VW polo 1.4 (diesel), 2003, 106.000m. They are asking for £1600, which many people have told me that it is cheap for this type of car. I have done a history check, and what comes up is that it is a cat. c loss, VIC pass recorded 29.07.2010.

What does this mean? I know that cat c damage means it has been written off at some point, but can be repaired. Does this mean that car still needs to be repaired? Should I buy this car? And if I do would the insurance be high due being a cat c?

Please help I do not understand nothing about cars...is this a good buy?

Don't touch it. It's been involved in the most serious type of crash it's possible for a car to be in and still be allowed back on the road.

Insurance will be a problem (though not impossible) and if you do have a claim they'll pay peanuts for it since it's already been written off.
£1600 isn't cheap for a 10 year old Polo with over 100k on it even without it being a Cat C write off, look on Auto Trader and do some research. It's worth less than half that.
