Why do people accept fiat money in trade for goods and services?

althought fiat money are money without intrisic value, they are considered money because of governement decree
ex. fiat money is 20$ bill. The paper is worth less than 1 cent, but because its written 20$ and we believe it's worth 20$ because of governement decree

I never knew fiat cars were considered money lol
