was abraham lincoln against slavery?

Check this article out on Wikipedia, has plenty of refrences in case you need it. The civil war wasn't based completely on slavery even though history textbooks might say so. Abe Lincoln isn't really the great man that everyone thought he was, in my opinion.

According to his own statements, he wanted to end slavery, but did not necessarily favor legal and social equality with whites for African-Americans (including the former slaves).
