Acura RSX hatch (trunk) won't stay open? Will this help?

The pistons that hold up the trunk have failed and It's very hard to keep the trunk/hatch open while doing my job. I deliver flowers and I get heavy ones and ones that are all the way at the end and I can't reach with one hand.

I was thinking instead of replacing the pistons could I just take this tool: http://www.harborfreight.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/image_20428.jpg

and put that where the pistons are (highlighted in the first picture link)? Will that hold it up?

well if you going to be a cheap a(ss) about it, just get you a stick and cut it down to size and use it to prop up the lid.
