There is no such thing as a Blu Ray DVD. It is called a Blu Ray and there is a DVD. HD tv program are all in 720P HD. Your DVD is only a 480P but some player will up convert the signal to 720P. While the Blu Ray is 1080P or Full HD. Keep in mind that you can not see the difference between 720P and 1080P in screen smaller than a 46". Hope this will help you out.
