Toyota RAV4 USB port help!!!?

I want to play music from my iPod on it. I have the usb cord that charges the iPod in the computer and I plugged it into the car's usb port but it would only play the 3 original songs that came with iTunes but nothing I bought on iTunes... Does anyone know why or better yet, how to make it play anything I want off my iPod?
