how do I connect a pioneer vsx 820 home theater to a mac mini ?

I'm trying to connect my pioneer vsx 820 home theatre (5.1) to my Mac Mini 7i. However my PC monitor has NO HDMI only DVI.obviously the mac comes with the adaptor hdmi cable and I tried hooking that up to the pioneer but no luck. I'm guessing the audio only needs to be hooked between the Mini and the pioneer ?? with the monitor connected to the mini via the aforementioned cable ? but that means i cant connect to the pioneer to the mini via HDMI as it only has one port. If i use the mini headphone socket where would I plug into the pioneer as the reverse panel has ports for hdmi and about 11 different triple composite sockets. Any help much appreciated as i'm completely stumped on this one.
