Will blu ray player work with regular DVD's?

So I have decided to finally upgrade to a Blu Ray player but am wondering if it will play my many DVD's (some of which I know will not be put on Blu ray just because of the company they are and the demand for them). My DVD player still works but their are so many nice sets that I want that I want to buy plus the ability to play hulu and Netflix makes it more than appealing to finally make the switch. Just need to know so I am not putting a regular DVD in it and find out it does not work.

The vast majority of commercial DVDs will play in the vast majority of commercial Blu-Ray (aka "BD") players.

Some BD players have problems playing some DVDs when the DVDs are not completely 100% manufactured to the technical standards. Lots of cheap DVDs have questionable quality control.

Mainstream name-brand BD players are usually the most forgiving and are able to deal with "iffy" DVDs.

I've used Samsung and LG brand BD players without a problem, and Sony is known to be of excellent quality though usually more expensive. Some people have had excellent results with Philips as well. I would never trust any cheapo brands like Coby or Emerson.

All Blu-ray players will play DVDs and usually CDs. Go for it.
