Since there are animals in heaven, it stands to reason that there are archaic homo sapiens and other human ancestors there.

But God didn't necessarily hold them to the same standard that he applies to us. If they lived without knowledge of Law or Gospel, they shall be judged mercifully without regard to those standards.
