Need to hook up wired speakers to a DVD player?

I have a 5 piece surround sound speaker set from an old AV unit I used to have. I want to hook these up to a DVD player but it doesn't have the standard speaker wire output. It has S-Video, optical, component, and digital video output. Is there some kind of converter I can use to go from one of these outputs to five speaker wire outputs?

Thanks!
Thanks Lynn, that's kind of what I figured. Thanks!

You need to go buy a proper surround receiver. It is what does all the work of decoding the surround from the optical out, to 5.1 channels, processing it with a level control and other adjustments, and amplifying it for the full range speakers. You will need an active sub which has a line in.

No there's no way you can use it the only way is to go out an buy a used DVD surround receiver so you can play the DVDs in it and hook up the speakers as well
