Is limewire safe and legal?

I used to use limewire all the time and downloaded a bunch of songs and nothing ever happened. But lately I've been using Itunes and I just can't afford to get the songs I want. I really want to go back but I've been hearing about how you have to be very careful because you can download a virus onto your Ipod. I have an ipod touch, so is it safe? are there any precautions I should take or other, safer free music downloading software?

It's not legal or safe. It's full of spyware and you can be fined $80,000 for using it.

Limewire was shut down by the courts back in 2009 or 2010 because it was used primarily for criminal activity. It's dead. But downloading music without paying for it is illegal, no matter what software you use. If you get caught, the penalty is a fine of up to $150,000.00 per song and up to five years in prison per song.

Amazon has music that's cheaper than iTunes and will play on iPods. And it's legal.

Downloading limewire is not illegal there forth it is not illegal, however it is illegal to download copyrighted stuff or stuff that violate the owners tos.

It's not safe whatsoever.
