Colin Kaepernick should be the new permanent quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. While Alex Smith is a solid QB, Colin Kaepernick is the player that truly makes the Niners a Super Bowl contender. He has a higher ceiling. Plus, he has played very well so far this season.

The second-year quarterback out of Nevada-Reno has a quarterback rating over 100. Not only is he a legit passer, he has moves with his legs. In the Niners 31-21 win over the Saints this week, Kaepernick had 27 yards rushing and a rushing touchdown to go along with 231 yards passing and a passing touchdown.

In the last two weeks as a starter, Kaepernick has led the Niners to decisive victories over the Bears and Saints. Could Smith have done the same? Maybe, maybe not.

Right now, the Niners have to ride the hot hand and go with the player with more upside.

And that’s Colin Kaepernick.
