On the opening series of last Sunday night's 13-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens safety Bernard Pollard let up on a play, assuming that quarterback Byron Leftwich was going to run out of bounds. Instead, the slow-footed Leftwich turned up field and rumbled down the sidelines for a 31-yard touchdown, leading to some embarrassment for Pollard, who vowed to never let that happen again.

"Now if a quarterback's going to the sideline and I've got a chance, I swear to you I'm going to kill him," Pollard said on Wednesday according to the Ravens' official website before teeing off on the league's player safety rules. "We have a split second to make a tackle and we already used our split second...We've got to go. We are a missile that can't redirect."

On Sunday, Pollard followed through on his pledge to not let up on an opponent who was running out of bounds. In the second quarter of the Ravens' 16-13 overtime over the San Diego Chargers, wide receiver Malcom Floyd was clearly going out of bounds after a 15-yard catch-and-run when Pollard gave him no choice in the matter. The veteran safety latched onto Floyd's shoulders and rode him to the ground deep into the Chargers' bench while CBS analyst (and former Chargers quarterback) Dan Fouts called for a flag.

No flag would come on that play, but Pollard is unlikely to escape punishment from the league this week.

In the fourth quarter, Pollard launched himself, head-first, into Chargers wide receiver Danario Alexander, who was defenseless as he was attempting to land following the incomplete pass attempt. After a brief conference, referee Gene Steratore announced that Pollard would be penalized for a personal foul penalty, which added 15 yards to a Chargers' drive that ended with a 30-yard field goal by Nick Novak.



Pollard won't like it, but his hit on Alexander will likely result in FedEx envelope from the league office. Pollard was fined $7,875 for a face mask penalty in a Week 7 loss to the Houston Texans.
