is judaisms teaching that jewish people need to live set apart from non jewish

society a weakness? i am trying to be open minded here but i live near a hasidic community and i find that they will be polite but they often stubbornly keep to their rules and keep themselves to themselves.

now whilst i accept that not every single person in the community is like that and their are other reasons such as modesty and safety , is the teaching of separation and need to live by the torah rules in anyway a weakness when it comes to interfaith relations, as i find that they very much keep to themselves which can be sometimes in my eyes give the impression that they don't want to mix in or open up

The practice you discuss is what Christians are supposed to follow.

    2 Corinthians 6:14

Do not be joined together with those who do not belong to Christ. How can that which is good get along with that which is bad? How can light be in the same place with darkness?

Just one more example of how most Christians ignore the Bible.
The Christian faith has not been designed to create success or find pleasure in or even tolerate this world but rather to OVERCOME it!
