scanner/printer/copier screen shows screen view but no words for the box screens?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the HP PSC 1410 and downloaded the critical update sp26273.followed the book instructions. I still get an error showing only view screen but no words for the different instructions in the boxes for me to copy/ scan/ print pictures or documents. I have Windows XP Home Edtion with SP2. I was updated with the new Explorer 7.
Someone suggested that I should uninstall and install it over and disable the DNS from the computer.
