I wanted to hook my DVD/Blue-Ray player to my computer (full HD capacity), so that my computer could serve kind of like a television for the Blue-Ray disc I wanted to play. So I hooked it up via HDMI cable, but nothing happened.

An hdmi on a computer is an output only not an input so hooking a bluray player to a computer is like hooking an output to an output.
