Before you break out try talking to your mother & point out that your date has already bought tickets, probably rented a tux, etc & to ground you over a fight is not fair to him or really to you. Then you do what you have to do.

is it really that big of a deal to miss prom for one year,There is going to be many more proms in the future
and once you lose the whole trust factor with your parents might be hard to get back,

i suggest having a good friend hang on to the dress so it doesn't get wrinkled, tell your mom she is taking the dress to go in your place.. (act real depressed about this, perhaps you won't have to sneak our) Night of prom, first ask if you can help your friend get ready, if so, you have your out, if not.. wait till the last moment and go with your plan stopping by your friends to do hair/makeup and get dressed.
