At the time Barack Obama was sworn in as the US president, we were losing close to 700,000 jobs every month. He got a stimulus bill passed immediately, and within three months, job losses began to slow. additional economic recovery programs were proposed, but most were blocked by Republicans. Even so, the job losses finally stopped, and now we are on the way to recovery, slowly. We are gaining jobs, not losing them. In fact, from the bottom of the recession, we have gained more jobs than were gained in Bush's entire 8 years in office.

Employment rates follow the economy. It takes a while for businesses to lay off workers and then they wait for things to recover before hiring on more workers.
