parties, and where they'll lead us? Obviously, there are short term differences. The matter of which president we elect next fall, for example, might affect exactly how many months into 2013 we invade Iran, and the partisan makeup of congress may have some bearing on how close they get to the point where a particular tax cut expires, before they inevitably extend it again. At the end of the day though, both the Democrat and Republican parties are both eternally in election mode, and neither is truly responsive to anything or anyone that doesn't come with massive campaign donations, so why do we spend so much time obsessing over which one is going to win the next election, rather than on trying to find a better option?
