The main character was a sort of evil villain type - all powerful, that sort of thing. Basically undead.

The basis of the narrative came about from a reporter going to get his story, at the beginning she's promised that he wont hurt her - a promise which he keeps, though twistedly still turns her undead/kills her once his story is over. The main narrative charts said villains rise to power and how he became undead/immortal. Has a lot of elements of black comedy.

I got the impression from the blurb that this was one from a series of books set in the same universe, but I can't for the life of me remember the title. I read it years back and I'm interested in picking it up again and perhaps seeing if the rest of the series is worth picking up.

If anyone has ANY idea whatsoever, I'd be extremely grateful.

Many thanks in advance.
Addendum:

Have a strange feeling he may have been called something like 'the dead man' or 'the hollow man', something like that. Quite potentially horrifically wrong in that regard however.

I also believe this was an American novel.
