What do you think of the rule 1 inch of fish per gallon of water?

I am getting an aquarium for christmas. I am getting a 37 gallon tank. I want to get 3 Australian rainbow fish, 3 albino cory catfish, and 6 glo fish. Idk if my tank is overcrowded or not. I was going to follow the 1 inch of fish per gallon of water but idk if it works. So what do you think.

It is complete bogus. It is ok if you are stocking something like guppies. But with that logic you could stock an oscar in a 30 gallon instead of the 75+ gallons it needs.
Theres much better tools out there now for figuring out stocking levels.
Aqadvisor.com is a really fantastic one. Though it is a bit conservative. Still a really good tool to use as a launching pad though.
