...install it while xp is still....? installed?

Or do I have to have an empty clean hard drive to instal the new windows?
So I have to burn it onto a CD 1st?
Thanks Roc!

Lol I wouldnt install a torrent of windows myself, but anyway, You can install the new OS on a partition. When you run the disc (if you get that far) it will give you the option and therell be a picture showing the space of XP and the space win7 will use. That would be a better idea for you rather than wiping all because when you find all the nasty shit contained in this torrrent youll be able to erase the win7 and keep the XP.

You can have dual boot with Windows 7 & XP... Rearrange your stuff on hard drive & make around 30GB of free space for Windows 7 & install it....

Update: Probably you will be downloading the ISO Image of Windows 7... As you are downloading from torrents, make sure you scan the downloaded file for viruses first & then burn to a DVD...

Good luck with that pirate version of win7 running for very long.

Yes assuming its an iso file you will need to burn it CD, Usually when you try and open the file it will give you an option to burn.

you need to burn the iso with an image burner - not just burning the ISO on a disk it has to be so it boots so burn the IMAGE not a drag n drop.

As forementioned pirated versions of windows arent too smart. You need a serial to activate windows. or its possibly laced with spyware Thats the risk you take.

If you want a new os and a free one i suggest linuxmint.com linux you dont have to worry about virus/malware and the new 12th version of mint is pretty sleek with gnome 3 ;P

installation for windows 7 has 2 options
1) update
2) fresh install

you can run a diagnosis (which should come with the windows 7 installation) and it will tell you if it is possible to upgrade

and if u cant then you will have to go with option number 2 and what will happens is you will lose installed software but your files (pictures, documents, etc..) will be stored in a new folder that will be created once windows 7 is installed

remember to burn this windows 7 installation torrent (which is most likely an .iso file) into a cd before trying to run the installation

STOP. STOP STOP

There is no need to download using a torrent.
you risk getting an infected copy, loaded with all sorts of spyware.

windows 7 is now freely available.

an iso is a disc image

you need to burn it to a DVD

using iso burning software.

......................................…

In XP or Vista

1. Download and install Infra Recorder, a free and open-source image-burning program.

Infra Recorder : http://infrarecorder.org/

2. Insert a blank DVD in the drive and select Do nothing or Cancel if an autorun dialog box pops up.

3. Open Infra Recorder and click the 'Write Image' button in the main screen.
* Alternatively you can select the 'Actions' menu, then 'Burn image'.

4. Select the ISO/image file you want to use, then click 'Open'.

5. In the dialog box, click 'OK'.
