Does puting video on a dvd loose its quality?

I have a shortfilm due next week and I want to know if I render the film to a dvd (if that's even possible) will the quality be lost? In the past I've used sony vegas (still do) to render my videos and then would present to class but quality was lost, so which is better to do? Thanks
