Where does the future of science and technology lie?

Which countries are going to overtake some of the western ones with science in future? China? India? Mexico? Nigeria? Iran? Turkey?

Iran has done phenomeally well, they're top of the list for growth, and now, at least in the number of papers they produce (only a crude measurement, but still), are ahead of Israel and Portugal. So much for the alleged "backwardness" of the so called "mullah regime".
@Bob B: That's totally irrelevant - we're not interested in output per capita or anything like that, but TOTAL output, so who cares if Iran has a big or small population. By that logic, the US is nothing special for science, cos they're population is 300 million. They dont produce much PER PERSON either. And by the way, Iran's population is about the same size as Turkey's.

The point is that if you can produce more than Israel or Portugal, than you have a good degree of technological capability.

The future of technology now lies in the field of electronics. Apparently technology has reached a plateau and advancement is now more horizontal than vertical. New discoveries in the field of electronics will give a boost to the vertical thrust.
My book describes a new thrust in electronics and physics in great detail. It is titled 'A NEW FORM OF ENERGY; ITS DESCRIPTION; ITS GENERATION; AND ITS APPLICATIONS'. (Amazon).
This book is the result of 27 years research in physics.
    The website is www.energyandphysatotalbreakthrough.com

Iran has a population of 75 million, over four times greater than the populations of Israel and Portugal combined. Yes, raw numbers of papers are a very poor measurement indeed. Australia published more than twice as many papers as Iran, despite having less than a third of its population.

    So nothing special from Iran.

Turkey has comparatively advanced technology compared to the rest of the Middle east, and India and China also have sophisticated equipment at their disposal. They can and do contribute volumes to scientific research, and will continue to do so. Given that both China and India have massive populations and some of the biggest economies in the world, this is not surprising.

"Growth" is something you should be careful when using to describe things, as something's growth is not always a good indication as to how it will eventually pan out. If a country's output is small, then a small numerical increase is still a large proportional increase. Eventually, a country will also "max out", and produce the maximum number of papers it is reasonably going to be able to produce. That's a much better indicator than how much it is growing.
