How did Homo Habilis and Australopithecus Africanus differ?

and why did Australopithecus become extinct while while H. Habilas continued to evolve.

Early Homo compared to Australopithecus is characterized by greater encephalization, altered cranial shape , smaller molars and narrower teeth, especially pre molars.

I do not believe that A. africanus became extinct for the reasons we usually think of such as over harvesting or loss of habitat. I think they eventually became H.habilis as the result of evolution, which is a long term result of adaptation to change.
