    Well for one, as you stated, it can and does effect legislation, school, science etc. But on top of it I am fascinated by the religious and what makes them believe, I find it bizarre and unsettling because we live in 2011 not the dark ages. We are or should be beyond this we have so much more knowledge.

    1) I'm religious (not necessary, but helps)
    2) I'm fascinated by history--religion is one of the major driving forces of history/
    3) Religion has real influence on our society, even today.
