We've been given an older tv and have bought a little dvd player for it and we're trying to set it up. The dvd player has lots of ports on the back - blue/green/red red/white/yellow etc. but the back of the TV only has Yellow and White. No red. So when we plug it all in we aren't getting any sound apart from just the buzzing white noise. What can we do to set up a tv with no red port?

the first set of blue/green/red is a component connection, used in high-definition systems.
the yellow/red/white is composite used in standard systems like yours. the yellow is "video",
the the white and red are both audio one is left and other is right. your tv only has one, "white" because it will it should duplicate the sound on both speakers, you don't need a "red'.
or you could plug it in with an RCA audio splitter if it doesn't transmit on both.

REd/white is simply stereo
white is simply mono

You can get a simple stereo to mono adaptor (Radio Shack) or check the audio options of the DVD player if there is a "mono" audio option. Try also connecting the "red" to the "white"

the yellow plugs end the t.v and the same color plug end the dvd player that's for video that's how you get your picture.now the white and red end jacks or for audio that's your sound so if you only have a white plug end jack end the back of your t.v. plug the white jake into the back of the dvd player and the other white end jack in the back of the t.v and that's for your sound. know the hard part you got to find out how to put your t.v on video. if you have a remote control you would have a word that say input or the word source.push one of those till you see a picture on your screen make sure your dvd player is turn on and is playing a movie. and if u don't have a remote control just keep changing your channel till you don't see no numbers then u is in video m ode on your old working t.v. have a nice day and good luck.
