I'd suggest getting a battery with a solar charger, such as the PowerMonkey, and using that to charge your devices. You can retain the charger even after the device becomes obsolete. Some hand-crank radios are better than others but I wouldn't trust one to give consistent voltage to a cellphone. I've had a PowerMonkey for about a year now and I'd recommend it to power your device directly or you can charge the battery and use that to run your device since it's very portable. It has built-in overcharging protection and provides a max output of 1.2 amps.
