Guitar question from a newbie?

nylon is used for classic guitars and sound different, steel strings are used for acoustic and electric guitars and they sound better and last longer

The difference is that nylon strings are made out of a type of plastic with the bass strings having wraps of metal. They are specifically for classical guitars.
Steel strings are used on "western" style guitars. Sometimes referred to as 'folk' guitars. These are popular for contemporary styles, pop, rock, blues, country, etc. They are brighter sounding. They do NOT sound better, just different.
They are NOT interchangeable. You CANNOT put steel strings on a guitar designed for nylon strings. It will cause severe damage to the instrument!

Use the simple PEN-15 stroke. It feels great as well as the sound

Sorry to sound like I'm bragging but I'm not trying to be like that, but that's an easy one. With the nylon you have to use the PEN-15 type of stroke....much unlike the steel strings where you do not stroke the PEN15 so much....ya get it now? Glad I could help out a fellow PEN15 stroking type of guy...
