Why are people arguing over Zain Malik's ethnicity / race?

Zain Malik is from Bradford, I know him (well have seen him around but I know his cousins etc) - he is a good looking lad and has got a lot of attention (obviously if you check his name on google you will know what I mean).

Anyway I was shocked when I go on youtube and people are arguing about his race/ethnicity? He is half Pakistani/ Half white? Obviously by his looks, he looks like a lighter skinned Pakistani and obviously his skin color as well - but many people are saying he looks white?

Obviously in general he looks Pakistani, why have people made such a big issue out of his race/ethnicity in the first place?

Curiosity I guess. He looks predominantly Pakistani to me as well, I wouldn't make the case otherwise. He's not a very dark Pakistani, but he looks south Asian nonetheless (to me he looks almost a bit more so than some of those pics you posted of other Pakistanis really).

It's the same way they make a big deal out of Kim Kardashian's race. Time-killing banter I suppose.
