Why is it that even after I install the xvid codec the video webpage keeps

saying I need to install it? I'm trying to watch an older movie online but I can't unless i install the xvid codec but even after I install it it says I need to install it to see it. But thing is I had already installed it and it's like it doesn't do anything to the browser or the browser isn't detecting it.

    What's going on?
