...files and use...? ...it with a pc ????

Since video software and files are large, I wish to use an external hard drive where I would install the video software and the video files, and with a powerful enough pc, I wish to use this storage solution as if it were an internal hdd. Is this possible ? I don't want a technical dissertation about hard dirves that i don't understand. Thanx
