I've got a 1999 Chevy S-10 with a manual transmission and about 190,000 miles. I had a tune-up yesterday (due to a gradual increase in misfires), and the mechanic said that I may need an overhaul or a rebuild in about a year or so.

So I guess this is a two-part question: 1. if you were in my situation, would you even bother with an overhaul or rebuild? 2. if so, how much should a rebuild cost? I'm located in St. Louis, MO.

Note: he wasn't trying to drum up more business for himself. He doesn't do overhauls or rebuilds, and he didn't have any recommendations for specific shops, so he won't be getting any kickbacks for referrals.
