What is a good small suv?

I want to get an suv. I'm looking for something that is relatively smaller. I have looked at some explorers and kind of like them, but I have heard that too much go wrong with them. Not to mention that they get pretty bad mpg. Im looking at the price range around $2000. Please say price and year of the car.
 
Explorers are mid-size, not small. So are Jimmy's and Blazers. Small SUVs would consist of things like Chevy Trackers, Rav4s, CR-Vs, these are not even trucks.

If you want a nice size SUV, not too big but fair gas mileage get a Jeep Cherokee or Grand Cherokee(Cherokees are better off-road but Grands are more luxurious). They are techincally mid-size but they are decent on gas and they are cheaper than Blazers and Explorers.
 
The Explorer is not a small SUV.

What you need is an S-10 Blazer or a Ford Escape. Finding one that is drivable for only $2000 isn't going to be easy.
