My friend wanted Dead Rising 2 so badly that my other friend told him about torrents. He said it was illegal but he wouldn't get caught. He's downloading the game right now but he's still woozy about the "fine" for illegal downloads. So for the people who have experienced torrents and downloaded games, please answer this serious question so I can help my friend.

Fines are mostly distributed by the MPAA and RIAA for downloading movies and/or music. Much less likely for games because there isn't a single organization that's as sue happy as those prior two. Moreover, unlike movies and/or music, buying games is usually more beneficial due to access to legit online content (like servers) unless it was DRMed to death as was the case with Spore and a handful of other games.

With that said, there won't be any fine. If you do get caught, the most you'll get is a warning saying that you shouldn't do it again. Wait a couple months and you can resume.

And finally, I don't think I've heard of anyone being fined for games.

Torrent downloads are not fully illegal because it is used for distributing large amounts of data.and if the data is personal data that you need to share with someone then its legal but now a days torrents are mostly used for illegal downloads.all types of movies, songs, softwares are available for free in torrents.and people using torrents are not paying a single penny for it.This is increasing piracy in the whole world. And many countries have strict laws for downloading illegal torrents. Moreover it depends on your country, its government and laws.
