    It sneaks up on you.

Whether or not you really sink into serious addiction depends on whether or not you cave in and smoke something.

    (Protip: don't.)

You are psychologically addicted. Yes, it can happen this fast. Though given the short duration the "addiction" is very weak and not 'deep'. Your brain didn't have the time to form the neural associations as a seasoned smoker. For this fact just stay a 'non-smoker' and this will pass and not bother you, trust me.

I smoked for 14 years, quit at 29yrs old and have been quit almost 2 years now. I still wouldn't 'mind' a cigarette, and like the smell. I imagine I will always like the smell, as I liked it before I started. Though the more time that passes the less even the attraction of a cigarette is when seeing and smelling it.

Otherwise I go weeks or more without even remembering I 'used' to smoke.

Don't worry with it, just don't smoke anymore -- this is an indication your addiction potential is HIGH -- this is likely true for any addictive substances,.. as such I would use this as a meter for future encounters and choices. I might stay completely away from alcohol, drugs, and so on -- and try healthy things that can become addicting like exercise, working out/weight lifting, etc -- Get addicted to things that make you better, and avoid anything that can and WILL destroy your life if you become addicted like alcohol, drugs, and cigarettes eventually with their propensity to cause terminal illness.
