Preferably something scary/space travel-ish, but other stuff is cool too.
Aliens and apocalypse stories are cool too. Actally, scary is good even if it's not sci-fi.
The Ender series by Card
The Miles Vorkosigan series by Bujold
The Hyperion series by Simmons
The Reality Dysfunction by Hamilton
The only thing I can think of like that would be the Daniel-X Series by James Patterson, but it's not really scary. It's about a teenage boy, whose parents were killed by an alien when he was little. And his dad had this list of all the bad aliens on earth, that updated itself instantly. And Daniel was a super-smart kid, so he remembered the day his parents were killed as he became a teenager, and puts it upon himself to fight the bad aliens on the list, planning on working his way up to the one that killed his parents. Oh, and he has a few pretty cool powers too.
Well The Host by Stephenie Meyer is about aliens is really good
