Is it gay to buy nice shirts?

I went shopping with my BFF Danny on Saturday and I bought some Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger shirts from Macy's. We both went into the dressing room so I can try them on for him and he can tell me if they look nice or not. After 35 minutes in the dressing room we decided on the shirts I was going to buy and as we walked out of the dressing rooms some dude told us we were gay. I was having an awesome hair day so I decided not to let this guy get to me since it was obvious he was jealous of either my hair or the fact that I can afford expensive shirts, but it still bothered me a bit. Why would he say I'm gay?
