Why does my iPhone delete my manually added songs in OS 4?

Basically when I hook up my iPhone to my computer after adding some songs manually through the phone, it syncs and deletes the songs I added. I have manually manage songs checked.
 
If you are manually managing songs then it should not be affected unless you restore. Updating firmware to iOS 4 will do NOTHING to your manually added songs. Nor should it do anything if you have automatic added songs.
