How do i play "r5 dvdrip xvid-max file"?

I download recently a movie from a torrent site and found "r5 dvdrip xvid-max" as part of the name. The movie i got is an avi file but when i played in windows media player is says "codec error". I tried also in vlc player same thing. How can you play the movie?
I already download vlc player and also K-lite codec pack but still doesn't work. Not just one movie. Both vlc player and wmp has message like "codec error: redirecting to microsoft codec download page". It opens window but then it will say sorry you got no survey.
