whats a good free downloadable anti-virus??

yep, avg is the best or if you have got time, you can always download free trials of payed programs which usually last 30days, then when the 30days is up find another one to install lol

There a lot availible right now. If you are willing to spend some money, then i'd go for either McAfee or Norton. If you want a free anti-virus, then may I recommend AVG, Yahoo Anti-Virus, and Avast! Anti-Virus. You are spoilt for choice, but those are the ones that i'd personally recommend to you =]

AVG is very good & doesn't hog resources on your PC. It updates itself daily. I've recommened it to plenty of other friends, all with good results. A very stable program.I would encourage you to donation even a little bit to them if you do use it.http://free.grisoft.com/

It's better to buy Norton, as many of the "free" downloads are very basic and once loaded continually prompt you to buy the full version. They are not effective against spyware etc. and are difficult to remove once installed.

New notebook is currently running Avast ver 4 and comodo firewall both free on a Vista system too.http://www.avast.com/eng/free_virus_protectio.htmlfirewallhttp://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/if you value resources steer clear of Norton IMO

Whenever anyone asks for the BEST (Insert Name Here) all they ever get are other people's "biased opinions". Some may be right and some may be wrong, but it is always "only their opinion".If you want to find out which Anti-virus has been tested and proven to be the most effective, free or otherwise, go to an unbiased, reputable testing site, like this one, for example:Then, decide which one is BEST for YOU.
