Will a Nintendo DS game work on a Nintendo DSi XL?

I went to a shop today and saw "POKEMON PEARL" and I wanted to buy it for my Nintendo DSi. However, it was written "Nintendo DS" on it and thus, that person told me that he is not very sure whether it'll work on a DSi. So, I returned empty handed. Please, help me.

Yes, I used to have a nintendo DS, but it broke, and I was left with a bunch of games. I bought a DSi and all of the games worked on it. but only DS games. not gameboy advance or gameboy color or anything else.
only Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi games work on a DSi

sure it works the DSi and DS games are the same! go and buy the game

Yes it will work. All DS will work in the DSi.
